| Mary graduated from the University of North Texas with a B.A. in Interior Design. Her works have been accepted into the juried shows of the Midwest Watercolor Society, the Texas Watercolor Society, the San Antonio Watercolor Group, and the Watercolor Art Society in Houston. The Hilton Palacio del Rio Hotel in San Antonio held a one-woman show for Mary for the year 2001.
Mary's painting personality is expressed through the fresh, loose handling of watercolors painted in a direct style with transparency and luminosity. She paints diverse subjects, ranging from landscapes, to florals, to rustic old vehicles. When a subject excites her, that reality is interpreted with bold, imaginative color statements, rich, luminous darks, and the play of light.
"Fresh, creative color and stimulating shapes are important to me, " Shepard comments. I want the viewer of my paintings to experience my enjoyment of color and excitement in the spontaneity of watercolor."
