ARTIST Marleen Hoover

Marleen Hoover's art at RAG is presented as mixed media works on paper.   Acrylic paint, colored pencil, and grease markers are layered to achieve an abstract spatial depth.  Hoover's subject matter is San Antonio and Texas -- the missions, the cactus and local wildflowers, the cowboy and the charro.   Hoover captures the essence, the flavor, the 'mystery' of the San Antonio lifestyle rather than the specific image.

Marleen Hoover has exhibited her works on paper and her paintings on canvas in Chicago, New York, and throughout Connecticut where she taught figure drawing, basic drawing, and art history at the University of New Haven for ten years.   She has exhibited in numerous group and one-person shows, and has curated many exhibits over the years.  Since 1996 she has been a professor of art history at San Antonio College, an active participant in the local art community, and continues to exhibit her work in various locations, from the Blue Star Arts Complex to Casa Bohemia, a new gallery in the 'deco district.'
