Jay left her careers in teaching, research, and the zoo business
more than ten years ago to pursue her lifelong dream of painting.
Her first love in subject matter was the horse; she has become
well-known in equestrian circles for her portraiture and action
paintings of sport horses. She has had two covers on the national
magazine, The Chronicle of the Horse, several championship posters,
programs and tee-shirts.Her horses are in equestrian collections
throughout the country.
Landscape painting became a real priority when Jay discovered
plein air (open air) painting. Jay's work has been well received
and has won many awards, including the Grumbacher Medal. She
has studied from such artists as Kim English, Ron Rencher, Scott
Burdick and Janice Hindes. Jay paints out at least once a week
and prefers the landscape of the Texas Hill Country and the
familiar sights of San Antonio.
