Jill has been active in making hand-built, wheel-thrown stoneware and porcelain
pottery for 28 years. She began pottery at the Fort Sam Houston military craft
shop in 1973. Jill studied the technique of Japanese Sumi-E brush painting on
rice paper while in Japan in 1979. She studied art and ceramics at San Antonio
Community College. Her application of brush painting on porcelain or white
stoneware is a unique combination of Sumi-E techniques and pottery.
Scenic reflections of time spent in Arizona are depicted in her southwest landscape
pottery, while her hand-built and coil vases are a unique style she herself
developed over the years. In 1981, Jill set up a studio and built a gas kiln in
the back yard. She now sells her pottery at art and craft shows throughout
Texas. Jill is an active member and on the Board of Directors of both the River
Art Group and the Randolph Art League.
