ARTIST David Gordon

As the owner of Gordon Pottery, David has been creating ceramic forms and glazes for over a decade. Prior to this, he was a collector and pottery "appreciator" for many years. A 25-year-long career as teacher and school administrator provided sufficient stress to encourage him to take his first pottery class; since that time, he has developed a deep connection with this medium. Since retirement a few years ago, it has been David's great good fortune to work daily with this craft and see it evolve gradually into a cohesive approach that includes both functional and decorative pieces. This approach reflects his own attraction to surface treatments that have striking individual differences while maintaining continuity through altered and classical forms. Work from Gordon Pottery includes handthrown, signed, decorative and functional pieces with unique glazes and surface treatments. The choice of which process to use -- glaze-fired stoneware or low-fired raku -- depends on the chosen aesthetic effect and the piece's ultimate use. In either case, the buyer is assured of striking design and color that will enhance any decor.

Stoneware pieces have durable, waterproof glazes that are lead-free, dishwasher-safe, and microwave-proof. They are intended for a lifetime of daily use.

Raku and other low-fire pieces, such as "horsehair", should be handled as fine art work - kept out of direct sunlight and cleaned by dusting. Low-fire vases and other containers should be used with dry arrangements only.
