River Art Festival, La Villita, October 7-8, 2006

ARTIST Betty Jameson

I am exploring the exciting mediums of watercolor, liquid acrylic and collage using direct painting and mixed media to capture an idea.  Many subjects interest me, and I try to emphasize a mood or what seems compelling or unique.  Most intriguing is the abstract work in which layering creates windows into the surface of the painting, suggesting but not defining.  I also enjoy experimenting with color to see how certain combinations set up a vibrancy.  Successful paintings happen when everything works.  They are the product of years of thought and practice and a few hours of inspiration.

My background is a BA in Art and Education, University of Puget Sound; an MA in Creative Expression and Elementary Education, University of Hawaii.  I studied at the Corcoran in D.C., have one year toward an MA in Art at Georgetown University, and have taken countless workshops.
