| The
great majority of artists realized from a very young age that art would
become an important part of their life - not so with Anita Keyes, an
award-winning artist and retired teacher of gifted and talented
children. She first became interested in art during her senior year at
Baylor University when she roomed with an art major. With no previous
experience in drawing or painting, she enrolled in her first art class
with Fredrick Mizen and became an absolute "beginner artist". Through
his patient tutelage, the exciting adventure of creating beauty through
two dimensional art was revealed to her.
Since that time, she has had no formal training. Only through
reading, observing, and experimenting has she arrived at the point where
she is today. Her versatility is obvious in the subjects, techniques,
and media in which she works. She is equally comfortable with
watercolor, pen and ink, pastels, acrylics, collage, charcoal, and mixed
media. Anita gives God all the credit for the gift that has brought her
so much joy.
